Equality, diversity and inclusion statement

Our commitment to treating every pupil, family and tutor fairly and to making our lessons inclusive.

Cove Tutors believes every young person deserves teaching that helps them succeed, whatever their background. We are committed to equality, diversity and inclusion in everything we do.

Our commitment

We follow the Equality Act 2010. We will not discriminate against anyone, or allow harassment or victimisation, because of any of the protected characteristics:

  • age
  • disability
  • gender reassignment
  • marriage and civil partnership
  • pregnancy and maternity
  • race
  • religion or belief
  • sex
  • sexual orientation

Fair treatment

We treat every pupil, family, school, tutor and applicant with fairness, dignity and respect. Everyone can expect the same quality of service and the same care from us.

Inclusive teaching and SEND

We plan lessons around each pupil. Every programme starts with a baseline, so we understand what the pupil already knows and how they learn best. We make reasonable adjustments for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), and we work with families and schools to understand what helps. Our accessibility statement gives examples of the adjustments we can make.

Our teaching materials aim to reflect a wide range of people, places and experiences, and to avoid stereotypes.

Fair recruitment

We recruit tutors on merit, using the same criteria for every applicant: subject knowledge, qualifications, teaching experience and suitability to work with children. We make reasonable adjustments in our application process for disabled applicants. Our safer recruitment checks are applied consistently to everyone.

Challenging discrimination

We do not tolerate discrimination, harassment or bullying in our lessons or in our dealings with anyone. Tutors will challenge discriminatory language or behaviour if it happens in a lesson, and will report it.

If you feel you or a pupil have been treated unfairly, please tell us at hello@covetutors.co.uk. We will take your concern seriously and handle it under our complaints policy. Raising a concern will never lead to worse treatment.

If a concern involves a child’s safety, please follow our safeguarding policy instead.

Review

Our founder is responsible for this statement. We review it every year, and sooner if the law or our service changes.
