Accessibility statement

How we make our website and our lessons accessible, the limits we know about and how to ask for help.

We want everyone to be able to use the Cove Tutors website and to learn well in our lessons. This statement applies to covetutors.co.uk and explains what we have done, what we know is not yet right and how to ask for help.

Our commitment

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.2 at level AA. We treat accessibility as part of building the site, not something added at the end.

What we have done

  • Clear structure. Pages are built with semantic HTML, with headings, lists and landmarks in a logical order, so they work well with screen readers and other assistive technology.
  • Keyboard navigation. You can reach and use every link, button and menu with a keyboard alone.
  • Visible focus. A clear outline shows which item has keyboard focus.
  • Captions and transcripts. Our explainer films have captions built into the picture, and a full transcript of each film is on the same page.
  • Reduced motion. If you have turned on the reduced motion setting on your device, we reduce or remove animation.
  • Colour contrast. Text and important interface elements meet WCAG 2.2 AA contrast levels, and we do not rely on colour alone to give information.
  • Zoom and resizing. You can zoom in or make text larger without losing content.

Known limitations

  • Our explainer films have open captions and transcripts but no audio description. The transcripts describe what is said; if you need a description of what is shown on screen, contact us and we will provide one.
  • Some forms on the site open your email app rather than sending a message from the web page. If this does not work for you, email us directly at hello@covetutors.co.uk.

Asking for an accessible format or adjustment

If you need information from this website in a different format, such as large print, plain text or an easy read version, or you find something that does not work for you, email hello@covetutors.co.uk.

Please tell us the page, what the problem was and the format or help you need. We will reply within 5 working days.

Reasonable adjustments in lessons

We want every pupil to be able to take part fully. Before lessons start, and at any time afterwards, please tell us what helps. Adjustments we can make include:

  • larger text and clearer layouts on the shared whiteboard
  • coloured backgrounds on the whiteboard, or materials that work with coloured overlays
  • extra time for tasks and questions
  • regular short breaks
  • materials shared in advance, so the pupil can prepare
  • live captions in Google Meet

We will talk with you and, where relevant, the pupil’s school about what works best. Our equality, diversity and inclusion statement explains our wider approach.

How we test

We check the site when we build or change pages, including:

  • moving through every page using a keyboard only
  • checking pages with a screen reader
  • running automated accessibility checks
  • checking colour contrast
  • viewing pages zoomed in and on small screens
  • checking pages with reduced motion turned on

Automated tools cannot find every problem, so we also welcome feedback from the people who use the site.

Enforcement

If you contact us about an accessibility problem and you are not happy with our response, you can use our complaints policy. You can also contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS) for advice.
